Simulation Research on Ultrasonic Phased Array CIVA of Flowmeter Butt Weld

Abstract: According to the structure size of the flowmeter, this paper proposes a detection method of sector scanning using phased array technology. Firstly, it analyzes the impacts of probe frequency, array size, scanning mode and other factors on the detection performance of the flowmeter. Then, CIVA software is adopted to carry out sound field simulation and the optimized design parameters of phased array are obtained. Based on this, a special phased array probe is designed. Finally, welding test specimens of flowmeters containing four types of common defects including incomplete fusion, lack of penetration, crack and pores in welds are designed to carry out defect response research. And the above four major types of common defects are detected successfully, thus verifying the testing ability of the designed probe to detect different defects.
